Brooklyn Oenology Winery (pron. ‘EN-ology’ or simply ‘BOE’), is a locally-focused winery based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, founded in 2006 by winemaker Alie Shaper. BOE extends the fundamental idea of terroir, which is essentially a combination of factors that create a wine’s sense of “place,” by incorporating the local agricultural, creative culinary, and art worlds.

In addition to sourcing New York grapes, BOE draws upon the Brooklyn and greater New York areas to create its identity. Each wine’s label showcases contemporary art by a Brooklyn artist and features a new piece of work for each vintage. They’re not just for viewing; they are double-layer, easy-to-peel stickers, so the customer can preserve the artwork. The tasting room also sells products from other artisanal New York state producers.

BOE is creating award-winning wines as well as a unique territory: Brooklyn Terroir. The wines are a celebration of the cultural inheritance and artisanal revolution that define Brooklyn.

  • 2014 Social Club White

Named after the Italian social clubs found in classic Brooklyn, Social Club White offers an easy-drinking, clean, fresh, crisp Chardonnay-based blend. SCW is indicative of the cool climate aspects in New York offering refreshing, food-friendly acidity, with notes of crisp apple, pear, and a touch of tropical fruit. It finishes with orange blossom and lingering, palate-cleansing minerality. Not at all heavy or oaky, SCW is the perfect alternative white appealing to both classic Chardonnay drinkers and ABC’ers (anything but Chardonnay)! Social Club White makes a great aperitif or casual sipper, but is extremely food friendly as well. Oysters, shell fish, soft cheeses, salads, and general lighter fare make great matches.
  • 2013 "Broken Land" Orange Wine

BOE’s “Broken Land” (which is the English translation of ‘Breuckelen’, the original Dutch name of the borough) is a distinctive wine made in a classic Italian/Slovenian style. On-skin maceration of the fermenting wine imparts a deep golden color and mesmerizing flavors. This wine offers an unexpected experience, with a heady palate of orange zest, nuts, lychee, apricot pit, rose, and jasmine tea, all changing in the glass as you drink it. Its complex structure and earthy tannin benefit from decanting and a temperature slightly warmer than normal for a standard white. Pairs well with pork, robust fish, squash, pasta with white sauce, melon with figs and prosciutto, roasted vegetables, ash-rind or medium-bodied cheeses.
  • 2012 Social Club Red

Like its sibling Social Club White, BOE’s Social Club Red is a medium bodied everyday, go-to red blended in the style of a Bordeaux grand vin. An intense, earthy nose of spices, bark, pepper and chocolate is confirmed on the palate, with additional flavors of dried cherries, blackberries, pomegranate, and soil. Our 2012 vintage is medium-bodied with a velvety mouth feel. It’s an easy drinking style that will warm you up! This wine exhibits an elegant, structured style that loves food! Burgers, BBQ, bacon, chili, pork, duck, lamb, charcuterie, meat-based pasta sauces all pair very well.
